CLEVELAND (WJW) – Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco addressed the Browns’ decision not to re-sign him during a press conference with his new team, the Indianapolis Colts, on Friday.

The Browns recently signed a one-year, $8.7 million deal with Jameis Winston, replacing Flacco as the backup for quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is returning after a season-ending shoulder injury last year.

Flacco, the AP Comeback Player of the Year who helped lead Cleveland to the playoffs last season while Watson was sidelined, decided to sign a one-year deal with the Colts, as FOX 8 reported last week.

On Friday, during his introductory press conference with the Colts, a reporter asked Flacco if he was surprised by Cleveland’s decision not to bring him back.

“Probably a little bit, but not a ton,” Flacco said. “I’ve been around, obviously, enough to know that you probably shouldn’t expect something to happen because you never know how it’s going to turn out.”

The Browns thanked Flacco in a social media post Friday afternoon, saying, “You brought such a sense of joy and genuine excitement to this team game in and game out. We were proud to have you in the orange and brown and we wish you nothing but the best in Indianapolis.”

Winston, who is in his ninth year with the NFL, played for the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the past. Overall, Winston is 34-46 as a starter.
