Joe Biden Hints at 2020 Presidential Run
Vice President Joe Biden teased a presidential run in 2020, telling reporters that while he is not committing to it, “fate has a strange way of intervening.”
His comments came after he returned to the Senate on Monday to preside over a procedural vote on a medical research bill named in part for his son Beau Biden, who died of a brain tumor in 2015.
Afterward, he told reporters, “I’m going to run in 2020.”
Some reporters laughed, and one asked, “For what?”
“For president,” Biden said. “What the hell, man.”
NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell told him that they would go with that story, in all seriousness, and he told her, “That’s okay.”

Later, when pressed on his plans, he said, “I am not committing not to run. I am not committing to anything. Fate has a strange way of intervening.”
Biden considered running this year, but decided in October, 2015 that it was too soon after the death of his son to launch a presidential bid as his family went through a period of mourning.
He would be 77 on Election Day in 2020. It wasn’t altogether clear on how serious he is — but the speculation will surely help earn him extra attention as he pursues signature issues while he is out of office. That includes what he has referred to as a “cancer moonshot,” to find a cure of cancer.
