J'Marion Gooch latest 2021 football signee to receive release from Tennessee

Feb. 21—Tennessee has not only lost the highest-rated member of its 2021 football signing class but the best name as well.

J'Marion Gooch, a 6-foot-7, 358-pound offensive tackle from Gallatin, Tennessee, has received an unconditional release from his national letter of intent. Tennessee's latest departure in the fallout from Jeremy Pruitt's firing due to multiple NCAA Level I and Level II violations was first reported Sunday afternoon by 247Sports.com.

Gooch was the nation's No. 51 tackle prospect and the No. 628 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, committing to Auburn last April before switching his nonbinding pledge to the Volunteers in late August and signing in December's early period. He is the third member of Tennessee's 2021 signing class to receive his release, joining four-star running back Cody Brown of Lilburn, Georgia, and outside linebacker Dylan Brooks of Roanoke, Alabama.

Brown received his unconditional release this past Tuesday, with Brooks receiving his Friday and then committing to Auburn on Saturday. Brooks is the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2021 class.
