Jimmy Kimmel Is No Match for This Year’s Spelling Bee Champion

Despite talking smack, Jimmy Kimmel had nothing on Arvind Mahankali, the 13-year-old phenom who won the Scripps National Spelling Bee last week.

Challenging the winner is a Kimmel tradition. However, this competition was far from a typical spelling bee.

First off, Guillermo Rodriguez came to the competition dressed like an actual bee and proceeded to mispronounce each of the words he asked the contestants to spell. Oh, and Jonah Hill was one of the judges.

This clip is from the second half of the competition. The first half was mostly of Mahankali caught in a laughing fit after Rodriguez walked on stage wearing his lovely pair of black and yellow wings. Here is that video if you want to check it out.

Mahankali is a pretty tremendous kid. He beat 280 other spellers from around the world to take home the trophy. This was his forth attempt at the national title and his first win.
