Jimmie Walker to perform at Rhythm City

1970s comedy star Jimmie (J.J.) Walker will perform at Davenport’s Rhythm City Casino in May.

Walker, 76, will do a show in the Rhythm Room at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 24. He is best known for portraying James Evans Jr. (J.J.) on the CBS television series “Good Times,” which originally ran from 1974–1979.

Walker was nominated for Golden Globe awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series in 1975 and 1976 for his role. While on the show, Walker’s character was known for the catchphrase “Dy-no-mite!” Tickets for his Rhythm City appearance will be $20, plus applicable online/phone ticketing fee (this fee is waived when tickets are purchased at The Market Gift Shop inside Rhythm City Casino Resort, 7077 Elmore Ave.).

Presales will occur on Thursday, March 7 at 10 a.m., after which tickets to all shows will be available for purchase on Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m.

The Copenhagen Bandit will perform two shows in the Rhythm Room on Thursday, April 25 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The Bandit (Cameron Summers) is a comedian born and raised in Joplin. Mo., surrounded by redneck beer drinking family and friends who are often the people behind his jokes, according to a Rhythm City release Tuesday.

Tickets for that show and a July comedy show will be $25 each.

The third comedian will be Brad Upton, performing two shows on Thursday, July 18 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. His 2019 Dry Bar comedy special, “Boomer Triggers Gen-Z Snowflakes” with over 17 million views on YouTube, is the second-most viewed comedy special on the planet, according to Rhythm City.

The viral phenomenon sent the album to #1 on the iTunes Charts and drove his ensuing special “I’m Not Done Yet” to new heights.
