Jim Carrey Is Being Sued For Allegedly Providing Drugs That Killed His Ex-Girlfriend

From Esquire

Jim Carrey is being sued for the alleged involvement in his ex-girlfriend's death, according to documents filed today in California. Lawyers representing Mike Burton, White's husband, say the actor obtained illegal prescription drugs, which he gave to White before her death.

In September of 2015, White overdosed on prescription medication, leaving a suicide note, which addressed her relationship with with Carrey. According to reports, White and Carrey had been dating off and on, though she was still officially married to Burton. She filed for divorce from Burton the December before her death.

"After obtaining these drugs illegally and under a bogus name ("Arthur King"), Mr. Carrey proceeded to provide the prescription drugs to his 30-year-old girlfriend, Cathriona White," the suit reads. "Mr. Carrey did so despite the fact that he knew full well that Ms. White was ill equipped to ingest and manage highly addictive prescription drugs outside the care of a liscensed physician."

White and Carrey met in 2012, and according to friends, broke up about a week before White's death.

As People reported at the time:

The toxicology report confirms that the death was a suicide and that White had a variety of prescription pills in her system at the time of her death, including propranolol (a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure), zolpidem (a sleep aid sold as Ambien), and painkillers oxycodone and oxymorphone.

The suit goes on to allege that Carrey attempted to cover up his involvement in her death. "In an effort to cover-up his conduct and complicity in her death, Carrey sent a bogus text message on September 27, 2015 to White (who was already deceased) pretending as though he had misplaced the drugs and insinuating White may have taken them from Carrey without his knowledge."

According to reports, Carrey was acting erratically at an Emmys afterparty on Sunday night.
