‘JEWS ARE RATS’ man charged with mailing antisemitic threat to Macon-based rabbi

MACON, Ga. (WRBL) – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia said a North Carolina man was charged for mailing antisemitic threats targeting a rabbi operating in Macon.

Ariel Collazo Ramos, 31, from High Point, North Carolina, is charged with mailing threatening communications. Authorities arrested Ramos at his home in High Point and he is scheduled to appear in court in North Carolina.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment on April 9, which was unsealed on Thursday. The indictment alleges that Ramos sent Rabbi Elizabeth Bahar of Temple Beth Israel a threatening postcard at her residence through the U.S. Postal Service on Feb. 1.

On one side of the card, there was a handwritten message stating, “Is there a child rape, torture, and murder tunnel under your house? We have the Zyklon B. Use Code ‘GASTHEJEWS’ for 10% off!” The other side of the postcard depicted a hand-drawn image of a Jewish male wearing a rat costume with the words “JEWS ARE RATS.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says if Ramos is convicted, he’ll face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The FBI is investigating Ramos’ case and both Deputy Criminal Chief Will Keyes and Trial Attorney Erin Monju are prosecuting the case.
