The Jets are 5-9. So fans bought ‘Fire Gase’ billboards outside MetLife Stadium

New York sports fans are ruthless.

Jets coach Adam Gase hasn’t even been in the Big Apple a year and they already want his head on a platter.

Need proof?

A collection of Jets fans bought three billboards with the inscriptions “Save the Jets” and “Fire Gase” on the highways around MetLife Stadium just in time for Sunday’s home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The billboards, which were financed by NYSF Magazine’s GoFundMe, also feature an image of the former Miami Dolphins coach in clown makeup.

A description of the fundraising campaign reads “100% of the donations to this GoFundMe are specifically for the purpose of sending loud public messages to New York Jets ownership that fans are fed up.”

In a blog post, NYSF Magazine CEO Jason Koeppel justified the overt signage by saying that it’s an attempt to hold Jets owners Woody and Chris Johnson accountable for their “terrible business decision.”

“The donors and organizers of this GoFundMe heard Christopher Johnson’s message loud and clear that Adam Gase would not be fired under any circumstances at the end of this season. We think that is a terrible mistake,” Koeppel wrote.

This isn’t the magazine’s first attempt to get management’s attention. In November, Koepell used funds from the campaign to fly a banner over Manhattan that read “Fire Adam Gase!”

At 5-9, the Jets appear to be a much better place than the 3-11 Dolphins. If NYSF’s campaign to oust Gase works, Dolphins fans might want to consider a more public protest to get what they want — whatever that might be.
