'Jersey Shore' original cast members not happy with MTV 'Jersey Shore 2.0' update

The original Roomies are not happy.

Cast members of MTV's “Jersey Shore” shared a post on Thursday, May 19, stating that the new MTV show, “Jersey Shore 2.0,” will exploit the work they did to build the franchise.

“As a cast that took a chance with a network in need, we put our most vulnerable moments on television for the world to see,” the statement reads. “We gave our all over the past 13 years, became a family and continue to open our lives for the world.

“So please understand that we are not in support of a version that will exploit our original show, our hard work and authenticity to gain viewers.

“Don’t forget to tune into an all new season of 'Jersey Shore Family Vacation.' "

A hashtag with #wearejerseyshore was included. The statement was posted by all the original cast members except for Ronnie Ortiz-Magro on Thursday afternoon, a day after MTV announced “Jersey Shore 2.0” will be filmed at a new “Shore house.”

“It’s been 13 years since the iconic cast of 'Jersey Shore' fist-pumped their way into our lives and stole our hearts,” said MTV in the new show description. “Now, the time-honored tradition continues with a new group of roommates moving into their own Shore house. They may have traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans, but when things heat up in Jersey, the Shore is still the place to be to make memories all summer long.”

While the location of the new Jersey Shore house is unknown, we do know it won't be in Seaside Heights.

495 Productions, producers of the “Jersey Shore” franchise, reached out to the borough, site of the original “Jersey Shore” from 2009 to 2012, but they were “advised informally, without any pending application, that there would not be an appetite for any reality show filming activity during July, August,” said Christopher Vaz, borough administrator of Seaside Heights, via email.

The “Jersey Shore” spin-off, “Jersey Shore Family Vacation,” features the series' original cast members, many of whom have become parents.

The “Jersey Shore 2.0” announcement was part of MTV Entertainment Studios' 2022-23 season reveal that includes more than 90 new and returning series on the Paramount Media Networks and Paramount+, including MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, CMT, Smithsonian Channel and Paramount Network.

“Jersey Shore Family Vacation” is one of the returning series.

Reps from MTV did not immediately respond to a comment request on the original cast's statement.
