New Jersey quintuplets graduate college on same day from same school

NEWARK, N.J. (WJW) – New Jersey quintuplets are not only graduating from college in the same year but also from the same school, on the same day.

The 21-year-old Povolo quintuplets graduated from Montclair State University together on May 13, according to the university.

Marcus Povolo majored in business administration with a concentration in international business. He has landed a job with the financial giant JPMorgan Chase & Co.

Victoria majored in biochemistry with a minor in Italian. She plans to take a year off to work and save money for medical school to study forensic medicine.

Michael Povolo majored in nutrition and food science with a concentration in dietetics. He is a student-athlete, part of the Red Hawks lacrosse team, and will continue at Montclair next fall to complete a 4+1 program.

Ludovico Povolo majored in political science with a minor in pre-Law, business. He’ll soon begin work as a sales and marketing representative for Techtronic Industries in northern New Jersey.

Ashley Povolo majored in English, teacher education, with certification in P-12. She is completing her clinical experience as a high school advanced placement English teacher and works as a University Fellow.

“Montclair helped us be together, but also helped us to become our own people, with our own majors, our own interests, our own friend groups,” Victoria said, according to the university. “We customized our own paths, but we got to the finish line together.”

According to the university, the Povolos are believed to be the first set of quintuplets to have simultaneously graduated from a New Jersey higher education institution.

The university typically holds two commencements for students based on their college or school but made accommodations in 2024 so the quintuplets could get their degrees altogether.

According to the school, the chances of having a quintuplet is roughly 1 in 60 million.

According to the university, the Povolos said their graduation is likely the last “big thing” they will experience all at the same time.

On May 13, the Povolos became part of Montclair’s Spring 2024 Class of 3,648 graduates.
