Jersey Mike's Subs will open a location in Plover. Here's what we know.

PLOVER – Jersey Mike’s is coming to Plover.

The local franchise owner, Rusty Lewis, said he’s aiming to open in late June or early July at 176 Crossroads Drive in Plover. The site is near Panda Express in Crossroads Commons, and was the former location of Sweet Tea Clothing Co.

Lewis said he’s happy to bring another location to central Wisconsin after Wausau’s restaurant opening was so successful. Jersey Mike's opened in February in Rib Mountain between Starbucks and Sleep Number.

“We hope to bring the same great subs, service and community involvement to Plover,” he said.

Jersey Mike's is a "fast-casual" sub sandwich restaurant with more than 3,000 locations. The franchise started out as Mike's Subs in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, in 1956, serving sliced and grilled subs on freshly baked bread. The chain restaurant has used the same recipe ever since. In 1975, a 17-year-old high school senior named Peter Cancro purchased the operation with his football coach and opened more locations. In 1987, Cancro began franchising the restaurant and changed the name to Jersey Mike's Subs to honor the brand's first location. Cancro is currently the CEO of Jersey Mike's Franchise Systems.

The company also values giving back to local communities. Each March, Jersey Mike's celebrates its annual Month of Giving. The last Wednesday of March, the brand hosts its Day of Giving, donating 100% of the day's sales to local charities across the country. Since 2011, Jersey Mike's has raised more than $113 million. In the last three years, the company has donated more than $15 million to Feeding America, as well, providing more than 150 meals to the organization's nationwide network.

When it opens, Jersey Mike's will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Jersey Mike’s is hiring at the new Plover location. Anyone interested in working at Jersey Mike’s can send a resume to wijmhiring@gmail.com. For more information, visit jerseymikes.com.
