Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” benefits local charity

AUGUSTA (WJBF) – Every year Jersey Mike’s subs designates one day to charities all over the country.

Today, March 27th, the sub company’s “Day of Giving“. Today, 100% of their proceeds will benefit those in need.

The Burn Foundation of America is the charity of choice in the CSRA. It’s located at 3614 J. Dewey Gray Circle in Augusta.

Quoting their website, “The Burn Foundation of America was founded as the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation in 1988 by Dr. Joseph M. Still, the namesake of the JMS Burn Center at Doctors Hospital. Dr. Still was dedicated to the continuous improvement of treatments for burn patients, and believed that having family close by was a key factor in the healing process. However, he was distressed to see family members sleeping in the burn center waiting rooms, or their cars, and often wearing the same clothes they had been wearing for days. After witnessing the strain that finding a place to stay and providing for themselves put on the families of burn patients, he was driven to find a solution. With the help of local fire departments and local community leaders, the Burn Foundation of America was formed. Today, JMS Burn Center is the largest in the country, and Dr. Still’s dream to provide a place to stay and non-medical necessities for burn patients and their families, remains the Burn Foundation of America’s mission.”

The Jeffery Vaden Chavis House is the facility for families of patients at the burn center.

The Chavis House was named in memory of Jeffrey Vaden Chavis, a firefighter from Lexington, SC, who lost his life as a result of burns he received in the line of duty on July 12, 2001. Each year, the Chavis House serves over 1,000 guests from across the United States as their loved ones receive treatment at Doctors Hospital.

So as you make lunch or dinner plans, consider one of the many Jersey Mikes locations in the CSRA and give back to the Burn Foundation of America.

If by chance, you’re not up for subs today… Jersey Mike’s will donate to hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more the entire month of March.
