New Jersey homicide suspect arrested in Bedford County

Mar. 11—BEDFORD, Pa. — A New Jersey man was awaiting a preliminary hearing Monday after he was arrested March 2 in Bedford County and charged with killing his 65-year-old mother earlier that day at her residence in Blackwood, New Jersey, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

James Joseph Doran was arrested after he reportedly drove at a high rate of speed toward a patrolling state trooper on U.S. Route 220 at Bedford and after he exited his Hyundai Elantra during a traffic stop and ran into nearby woods.

Doran, 30, of Trenton, New Jersey, was reportedly covered in blood when he was taken to UPMC Bedford, where he refused to identify himself and refused blood draws.

State police identified Doran through the vehicle registration and upon contacting the Gloucester Township Police Department in New Jersey.

Doran reportedly remains jailed in the Bedford County Jail, pending a hearing Wednesday in Bedford County Central Court and extradition proceedings.

Police said the homicide victim, 65-year-old Lillian Doran, was found dead of blunt force head trauma.

The investigation is continuing by state police and the Gloucester Township Police Department.

Numerous local charges were also filed against Doran, including reckless driving and driving under the influence.
