This 'Jersey' Girl's Never Been To NJ, But Has The Tattoo Anyway

Her movie-inspired ink draws curious glances and invitations to come visit the Garden State.

People get tattoos for lots of reasons: to honor loved ones, to commemorate an achievement or highlight a special event.

A Reddit user who got a tattoo of New Jersey shared it, saying she got the tattoo because it represents her love of the Garden State.

One caveat: She's never set foot in the land of pork roll, Jersey tomatoes and beach badges.

"I've never been to New Jersey but I love Garden State!" Reddit user leebobr wrote when she posted the photo on Nov. 27 in the New Jersey subreddit.

That, of course, prompted a few people to ask why she loves it enough to devote a large space on her forearm to a tattoo of the state.

"Honestly I don’t actually know much about New Jersey! Of course I know the stereotypes but it would be silly to think that’s accurate for an entire state, plus I’ve heard it’s beautiful in the fall so it can’t be that bad," she replied to one question.

"The inspiration for my tattoo is a movie called Garden State. It is one of my favorites and there are certain quotes in it that I love, but didn’t want to just get a tattoo of quotes so I came up with this!" she said. "Trust me though, I get strange looks and confused faces when I tell people who ask about it that I’ve never been."

Several other users responded urging her to come check out the state, and praising the colorful tattoo, which she said incorporates a section of the wallpaper design from a scene from "Garden State," the 2004 Zach Braff movie starring Braff as a displaced and overmedicated New Jersey guy who goes home for his mother's funeral and Natalie Portman as the girl he meets and falls in love with during his return, according to the Roger Ebert description of the movie.

"You must visit! New Jerseyans are very welcoming! If you drive, just remember to keep right except to pass ! It’s the law!" reddit user NJDriver_KeepRight wrote.
