Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘Black Lives Matter’ Joke on Twitter Causes Outcry
The latest episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee features Jerry Seinfeld chatting with fellow comic Lewis Black.
To promote the episode, Seinfeld recently tweeted out a joke referencing Black’s last name. He said: “New! Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Lewis Black. Black’s life matters.”

That joke is clearly a riff on the Black Lives Matter movement, and some Twitter users were not amused. One wrote back: “I love you man but this is disrespectful.” Another referenced conservative news outlet Breitbart. But some downplayed the incident, calling critics sensitive and saying it was just a joke.
@JerrySeinfeld @Acura Who’s writing your tweets now? The Breitbart humor section staff?

Coincidentally, during the episode, Seinfeld and Black discussed comedians’ relationship with political correctness and how to combat it. Seinfeld asked Black, “You think political correctness will eventually be not important?” Black responded, “I think [comedians] are going to wear them out.”
