Jerry Jones not interested in adding RB, but will Dallas Cowboys make trade at deadline?

The Dallas Cowboys running game has been lacking through the first seven games of the season.

And the lack of a power back to replace the departed Ezekiel Elliott, who was cut in the offseason for salary cap reasons after scoring 12 rushing touchdowns in 2022, has played a role in their struggles to score in the red zone.

It’s the reason the Cowboys have been mentioned as a possible trade partner with the Tennessee Titans if they decide to move on from running back Derrick Henry.

The Titans don’t want to trade Henry but they would listen to the right offer for the veteran back, who is in the last year of his contract.

It doesn’t appear that an offer will be coming from the Cowboys.

Owner Jerry Jones said the team is not interested in adding a running back to the roster.

The Cowboys (5-2) are averaging 3.9 yards per carry as a team. Their goal is 4.5.

Tony Pollard leads the team in rushing with 108 carries for 423 yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys running backs have accounted for just three rushing touchdowns as a unit.

“I like our running backs,” Jones said. “I don’t want to dismiss anything but that is not a pointed position of need. At all. Not on the radar.”

If you let Jones tell it, the Cowboys won’t make any moves to upgrade the roster before NFL trade deadline expires Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Nothing is brewing and nothing is on the radar.

“I think it’s fair, accurate to say that it doesn’t look like we’ll be doing anything,” Jones said. “We’ve done it in shorter notice than what we’re dealing with here. Bottom line is it doesn’t look like that we’ll be doing anything.”

Jones said the Cowboys could use to help on the offensive line for depth purposes. But that is also a problem across the league.

“If you really looked at our team right now, the biggest need is depth in the offensive line,” Jones said before adding. “Everybody in the league is looking for starting offensive linemen. Everybody.”

The Cowboys got some good news on the offensive line on Monday when the ankle injury suffered by swing tackle Chuma Edoga in Sunday’s 43-20 victory against the Rams is not as serious originally thought.

He could play practice Wednesday and play against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.

Left tackle Tyron Smith, who missed the Rams game with a neck stinger, is not expected to practice on Wednesday but the Cowboys are optimistic of him being ready to go for the Eagles.
