Jeremy Clarkson's favourite cow Pepper was saved from abattoir fate as she got pregnant with a calf.

Unfortunately at the start of Clarkson's Farm season three, the TV farmer was forced to sell some of the cows including fan favourite Pepper - who Clarkson always had a soft spot for. It was a sad day for the journalist as he watched his cow climb into the van taking her away.

The former Grand Tour presenter could no longer keep all of the cows because the council had closed the restaurant on site - later Clarkson tearfully celebrated his victory against the council when the decision is overturned.

In moving scenes, we see Clarkson and his girlfriend Lisa Hogan reunited with Pepper and her new calf Tabitha - "Tabby" for short. Hogan's jaw dropped when she laid eyes on Pepper for the first time in a year after they had said goodbye.

Clarkson took his girlfriend for a spin in his car on a spring country day and drove her to see their friend, the cow farmer, Tim. Hogan couldn't hide her disbelief in seeing Pepper. "No," she said.

"Pepper!" Called out Clarkson as they were reunited with their cow.

"No way," Hogan said. She was still in shock that Pepper had been living on a farm in Northamptonshire.

"We haven't seen her for a year," Clarkson explained to the cameras. "The real big surprise, that is Pepper's calf." He introduced his girlfriend to Pepper's baby. Clarkson further explained: "Pepper got pregnant. This is Pepper's calf."

Clarkson called Pepper's calf Tabby the "sweetest" thing and Hogan gushed over her too. She said: "You are the cutest thing. Look at the diddly little Pepper."

The TV presenter remembered how he thought Pepper was destined for the abattoir when he was left with no choice but to sell the cows. So he was equally surprised to find out about Pepper's new life on a new farm. "Imagine my surprise," he said.

Hogan, who hinted at a proposal, revealed this was the best possible surprise. She said: "It's the best surprise you could have given me."

It turned out that Pepper had got pregnant by the same bull who had been on Diddly Squat farm. Farmer Tim joked the cow just didn't like Oxfordshire.

It comes after Clarkson struggled to say goodbye to the cows, especially Pepper. In the first episode of the season, he revealed he was "really quite sad" about the cows. He said: "I'm finding today really quite sad as for the last year I've been opening the windows, opening the curtains in the morning and there are the cows. And I love that. Making cow noises. It just cheers my heart every morning to see them."

Charlie Ireland told him not to ask too many questions about Pepper's fate, hinting she would be heading to the abattoir. He said: "I wouldn't ask too many questions about Pepper. Don't ask questions you don't want to know the answers to."

Costs have spiralled this season with Clarkson revealing he had spent an eye-watering amount on food. Comparatively, he explained he splashed out £108,000 on growing food last year but he would normally spend £40,000.

Speaking at an event at Diddly Squat Farm ahead of its exclusive launch on Prime Video, he said: "Ordinarily we’d probably spend around £40,000 in seed, fertiliser, slug pellets, diesel etc and all of the various things you need in order to grow food. Well last year it was £108,000 we had to spend."

Clarkson's Farm is in its fourth season now with filming underway. Clarkson's girlfriend revealed they would love to keep making the show for as long as they can.

She said: "As long as it's educating people, and showing people how difficult farming is, and it's helping people appreciate food in a way that they may not have before. Maybe people will pop their bread in the freezer instead of throwing it out when they see how much work goes into making a loaf of bread."
