Jeremy Clarkson has given The Grand Tour viewers an insight into upcoming season two, discussing the making of the follow-up to the enormously successful first season – as well as the (many) challenges facing the team.

Over the course of season two production, all three hosts were hospitalised: James May with a stomach virus, Jeremy Clarkson with pneumonia and Richard Hammond with a broken knee after filming for one of the episodes went quite spectacularly wrong.

"He can't see over the steering wheel," Jeremy joked in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine when asked why Richard had been involved in two rather serious car crashes while filming for Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

"It is astonishing that all three of us had been confined to hospital beds in the space of six months. Except of course it isn't astonishing because we are now very old and starting to disintegrate," Jeremy added in his The Sunday Times column.

Understandably, the trio's various ailments delayed season two's launch date on Amazon Prime – although only by three weeks.

"You think 'failure is not an option' is a Hollywood cliché. But actually in California, it's a business mantra," Jeremy added.

And although Amazon were keen to go with the original date, they did give in and allow the team some extra time to bring home the bacon.

"Despite the extra time, flat out doesn't begin to cover the way we are working now," Jeremy wrote. "Terminal 5 is where I live now as I race from New York to Toronto..."

As well as reflecting on the challenges facing the second season, Jeremy gave a taster of what we can expect – more of the same from season one, yes, but some changes too.

"We've driven three old Jaguars down various ski runs," he teased.

"I've done 400 miles, on the road, in the new Ford GT while racing James and a wheelchair-bound Richard in a plane [...] I've thundered round our track in Wiltshire in everything from a Jaguar XJ220 to a Tesla Model X."

It all sounds very exciting, but Jeremy isn't shying away from the aspects of The Grand Tour's first season that didn't work so well either.

"Then there's our tent studio," he added. "We all know certain things didn't work in the last run, so they've gone and in their place will be exciting new stuff.

"All of which will be announced just as soon as I've thought of it."

The Grand Tour season two launches on Amazon Prime on Friday, December 8 2017.
