‘Jeopardy’ Contestant Loses by $1

Jeopardy contestant Todd Gonzalez had a commanding lead over returning champ Barbara Resnick Thursday night going into Final Jeopardy. Gonzalez was beating Resnick $18,400 to $9,200 when he bet $1 on the Final Jeopardy category “Names in the News.”

Unfortunately, Gonzalez was unable to come up with a name to match the clue, “This 52-year-old went through a temporary growth spurt, growing 2 inches in less than a year, as revealed by a 2016 physical.”

The answer was astronaut Scott Kelly, who spent nearly a year on the International Space Station and grew 2 inches due to the lack of gravity. Gonzalez didn’t know the answer, so he answered “Statue of Liberty,” dropping him down to $18,399.

Resnick, on the other hand, did know the answer and bet all $9,200 to double her money to $18,400 and beat Gonzalez by $1.
