Jennings man charged after wrestling with police over firearm

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Jennings man was charged Tuesday after fleeing police and eventually wrestling with officers in an attempt to take one of their firearms.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident took place Monday in the 8800 block of Blewett Avenue.

Police spotted a black Dodge Challenger that had recently been reported stolen. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver sped off, weaving in and out of traffic in excess of 65 miles per hour.

The Challenger eventually stopped at a home in the 8800 block of Blewett Avenue. Police claim Carl Terry, 44, exited the vehicle and ran toward the home. Officers noticed a small child still in the vehicle and without a car seat.

Police ran after and caught up to Terry, who allegedly reached for a detective’s AR-15 rifle.
