Jennifer Lawrence Calls Her Tattoo a ‘Watered-Down Rebellion’

Jennifer Lawrence might be one of the most famous and sought-after actresses in the world, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t go through a rebellious phase just like the rest of us mere mortals. The X Men: Apocalypse star was recently spotted sporting some bona fide ink. It’s small and nondescript — and it happens to be the chemical symbol for water.

“I call this tattoo a watered-down rebellion because it’s not like a real tattoo,” she explained to HitFix of the red mark on her right hand.

So, why get one at all? It turns out her Hunger Games co-star, Liam Hemsworth, is to blame.

“I was with Liam’s family and everybody was getting tattoos and I was like, ‘Well, I’m always going to need to be hydrated, so I guess I should just get H2O on my hand.’”

She also opted for a color that’s a bit more subtle than your standard black.

“It’s the color of a scar, so it’s all natural,” she mused. “So it’s literally the most un-rebellious tattoo that anybody could ever get.”

There is one thing notable about the tiny symbol, however: The 2 isn’t positioned in the proper location — and she’s fine with that.

Speaking to those who might have an issue with the artistic license taken with the mark, she quipped, “By the way, I know that the 2 is high and in H2O the 2 is supposed to be low.” (The 2 in H2O appears as a subscript, but on her hand it’s a superscript.)

Hey, maybe that scientifically incorrect tattoo is a little rebellious after all.
