WHITE PLAINS , N.Y. – A missing Connecticut woman's estranged husband and his girlfriend have been charged in connection with her disappearance, police announced Sunday.

Jennifer Dulos, 50, a mother of five, has been missing since May 24 after she dropped her kids off at school.

Her husband, Fotis Dulos, 51, and his girlfriend, Michelle Traconis, 44, were arrested in Avon, Connecticut, on Saturday and accused of evidence tampering and hindering prosecution. They were detained on $500,000 bail and scheduled for a court appearance Monday.

More charges may be coming.

New Canaan police had previously said they were investigating the matter as both a missing persons and criminal case.

Jennifer Dulos went missing amid a bitter divorce and custody battle with her husband, who is a home builder and developer, according to reports. The couple had lived in Farmington, Connecticut, where they still own a house and where Fotis Dulos’ business, Fore Group, is based.

Jennifer Dulos filed for divorce in June 2017. She and her children, ranging in age from 8 to 13, left the home in Farmington at that time. She had primary custody of the children, with their father seeing them every other weekend, according to The Associated Press.

Court documents in the divorce case said Jennifer Dulos feared her husband would harm her in some way in retaliation for filing for divorce, the AP reported. Fotis Dilos was asking a judge to grant him custody of the children. Since their mother went missing, the children have been staying with Jennifer Dulos' mother in New York City.

The night she was reported missing, police found Jennifer Dulos’ black Chevy Suburban parked near Waveny Park in New Canaan.

The search for Jennifer Dulos brought police to the Westchester County town of Pound Ridge, about 8 miles from the house in New Canaan that Jennifer Dulos rented and lived in with her five children, according to reports. Her 85-year-old mother lives in Manhattan, but owns a house on Mallard Lake Road in Pound Ridge.
