Jennifer Aniston Calls on Her Fans to Ignore Paparazzi Coverage

Appearing on Ellen on Wednesday, Jennifer Aniston discussed the essay she published in the Huffington Post this summer in which she decried the paparazzi coverage of her life. Aniston has always been the subject of constant reports, about her love life, her marriage to actor-writer Justin Theroux, or most of all, whether or not she’s pregnant.

“I was just fed up with… and these tabloids, all of us, need to take responsibility on what we ingest into our brains,” the Friends star told host Ellen DeGeneres. “Just because we’re women, we have a uterus, we have a vagina, we have ovaries, [we’re told we] need to get to ‘Get to work, lady.’… We, as women, do a lot of incredible things in this world other than just procreate.”

If there’s another celebrity who knows exactly what she’s complaining about, it would be Ellen DeGeneres. The Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are constantly subject to such rumors. “We just get boxed in,” Aniston continued. “They love the narrative, they love the story. They love [headlines like] ‘She’s Jealous’ and ‘This Person’s Depressed’ and ‘Oh My Gosh, You’re Never Going to Have a Child.’ Whatever the horrible little headline is. We just gotta break out of that.”

Aniston took time to make a direct appeal to women, who, she noted, are often the authors of these stories. “We have to stop listening to them, and we have to stop buying them, because we have to support each other, especially at this time, to love each other, to support and to be proud of women and whatever your choice is in life, it’s up to us what makes us happy and fulfilled,” she said.
