JENNIE: Paul Charette Medical Spas offer advanced skin treatments, services and products

He’s a medical aesthetician and cosmetic practitioner, and his techniques and attention to detail are incorporated into all aspects of Charette cosmetics. And we are thrilled to have Paul with us on the show today. Paul, by the way, grew up here in Augusta and it’s terrific that you are here. I want to talk about how you go from Greenbrier High School to having salons and medical spa in big cities in our country.
PAUL CHARETTE: I started out going to school for hair, but I loved learning about the skin. I actually had really bad acne when I was younger. So I kind of went through this journey of trying to fix my own skin and I kind of fell in love with it. You know? So I kind of just dabbled into it. And then I was like, “Wow, I really love this, and I can do it and make money.” So I just kind of like fell in this rabbit hole and just kept going with it.
JENNIE: There was also a stop in Bangkok along the way for training.
PAUL CHARETTE: So Thailand, they do some really awesome work there with skin. They do some next level stuff. So I’m all about wanting to do the best, have the best treatments, the best services. So I was just seeing kind of like the technology they have and I was like really intrigued by it. So I was like, “Well, I’m going to go and learn these methods.” So I went, I learned some stuff, and brought it back here and made it my own.
JENNIE: If you go to Charette Cosmetics.com, you’re going to be blown away when you see details about the salon and all of the different services that you all provide there. I mean, you incorporate so many things into your practice.
PAUL CHARETTE: Yes. I mean, we do everything, self-care, you know, everything like rejuvenating skin. We also do a lot of weight loss. We do hair rejuvenation, you name it. Anything in aesthetics about making yourself look better, feel better that we do everything like that. It’s all about self-care. It’s about letting everyone feel good about themselves, you know? And that’s really the core of our business, is we want to help people feel their best, be their best. Because how you feel about your appearance affects your everyday life.
JENNIE: Do you have people who are licensed for different things? I mean, I would think with so many different procedures going on, there’s a lot of regulation involved.
PAUL CHARETTE: Oh, yes. Well, we have three locations. We have one in Atlanta, one in Miami, one in Dallas, Texas. So I have a full staff in each location. We have nurses, we have PA’s. I have doctors that do all different types of treatments that they’re licensed to do. So I mainly do things with skin like lasers, peels, micro-needling, things like that. But you know, the nurses do some of the injectables. The doctors do some of like the weight loss and the hair restoration and things like that.
So when I first got into the industry, I really saw a lack of results. You know, all these companies were doing the same treatments, the same services. But I really saw that there was room for improvement because, you know, people would come to you and they’re in desperate need of help, whether they’re suffering with acne, they’re suffering with pigmentation or different type of skin issues. And what we were doing in the industry, it would take so many treatments, so much money to see results. So I really set out to find treatments and create protocols and using the latest and greatest technology to deliver results to help people. Because a lot of people would struggle with something and they really couldn’t find anything that works for them.
JENNIE: Inclusivity is really something that you’re concerned about and you treat people of all different skin, skin colors, all different ethnicities in your salons.
PAUL CHARETTE: Yes. So, treating all skin types is difficult. You know, some darker skin types can be very difficult to treat. But it’s something that I set out to really make sure that I crafted and perfected to be able to help everybody. Yeah, because, you know, everyone’s all different colors in this world and everyone needs help with their skin.
JENNIE: What are some of the specific products that you are proud of in your line? And why do you think it’s important to send people home with products?
PAUL CHARETTE: You know, you can’t just go to the gym one time and then you’re going to see the results. You know, you have to kind of maintain your results. So pairing, you know, skincare that really works well with your treatment is so important. So some of my favorite products would be the retinol serum that we have. The Reverse + Rejuvenate is a very, very powerful yet gentle retinol. A lot of people, if they’ve tried retinol, it can be a little irritating… but we formulated something that not only is it super, super potent and effective, but it’s very, very soothing and very calming to the skin. So you’re able to get those results with that serum, but also not have the side effects of, you know, traditional retinol. So that’s the one product that we’re really proud of because it just it helps people with hyper-pigmentation fine lines and wrinkles, texture, tone, acne. It really has helped a lot of people that couldn’t really use retinol because of the side effects of it being a little too irritating to the skin.
I’m also a huge advocate of sunscreen. Sun is one of the most damaging things to our skin. You know, obviously it can cause cancer. It causes the skin to prematurely age, very quickly, causes hyperpigmentation and causes a lot of things in the skin. That’s not good. You should wear sunscreen 365 days a year, even if it’s winter and it’s snowing or it’s raining outside, you still get damage from the rays. So sunscreen is one of my top products and I recommend everyone to use. And, you always want to reapply, make sure that you’re reapplying every 2 to 3 hours. And I guess the one last part, I really, really love our moisturizer, our Nourish + Soften moisturizing lotion. It’s so rich, it’s so nourishing to the skin. And whether you’re dealing with dry skin or dealing with irritated skin, rosacea, the ingredients that we have in there, we have a lot of peptides in there that really make a difference in the skin and it really kind of protects the skin and just it’s like a nice warm hug to the skin. So those are my top three anti-aging because I can sit here and tell you about all of them.
