AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — Get ready for a night of unforgettable live music at Flex Fest 2024, this coming Saturday, May 11 at Savannah River Brewing Company from 4pm until midnight.

Headlining the event is the legendary Wycliffe Gordon and Friends. Local food trucks will be on site as well. Flex Fest is a fundraiser for the Neuromuscular Clinic at the Medical College of Georgia.

Corey Andrews is a Ph.D. student at Augusta University.

“I spent a year working with the clinic prior to starting the Ph.D. program. I was a clinical research coordinator where we basically performed clinical trials for patients with ALS and myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular diseases. So some of the services that the clinic offers include a multidisciplinary ALS clinic, where all the services that patients that have ALS would need to have in order to manage their disease are brought and streamlined into one place. So, if you had to go to see your speech therapist at one appointment, and then you have to go see occupational therapy at another appointment. With this multidisciplinary clinic, all those services are brought to one place to ease the struggle to get around.”

The AU Neuromuscular Clinic is located at 1120 15th Street. You can call the clinic for more information 706-721-2681.

This weekend’s Flex Fest features live music and it’s going to be a family-friendly event. Acts include Wycliffe Gordon and Friends, and Easily Amused.

“They’re great indie rock band out of Augusta, Georgia. We have Ethan Stallings Group, which is really just a, you know, ensemble of jazz and soul and even some funk. So they’re great. And then, Goodnight Lizzy. Lizzy has a wonderful voice and they’re a great local addition to the gospel music scene. So, yeah, we have several different musicians coming out and being a part of this great opportunity to raise money.”

Of course, for adult beverages you must be 21 and older, all ID’s will be checked. Kids under 12 get in for free. General admission tickets are $30; $40 for VIP, which comes with a complimentary koozie and 16 ounce cup that can be refilled with a beer.

“So Savannah River Brewing Company is actually partnering with a company called Ales for ALS. And they actually provide hops for different breweries around the country to brew their own, you know, IPA or Pilsner or whatever kind of beer that they choose. So they’re brewing an IPA that’s going to be available or at least that day that will proceed toward ALS Research.”
