Jefferson Street Popeyes damaged in early morning fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A fire damaged a Popeyes restaurant early Wednesday morning just north of downtown Nashville.

The Nashville Fire Department (NFD) said units were sent to the Popeyes in the 900 block of Jefferson Street just after 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 to respond to smoke that was seen coming from the restaurant.

Upon arrival, crews reported smoke was visible and they had to enter the building through a side door.

Investigators said the fire may have started in the kitchen and the fryer was still boiling when crews arrived on scene.

According to NFD, the fire went up a chute and burned some of the ceiling, which caused extensive damage to the kitchen and ceiling.

Crews said the restaurant will “likely be unable to open for a while.” There was no exterior damage other than broken glass.
