BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A recount was needed for a Benton County Justice of the Peace race.

It took place this morning at the county’s election commission meeting.

The recount was requested by Michael McCaskey who ran against incumbent Jeff Dunn for the Justice of the Peace District 1 seat.

Unofficial results had Dunn defeating McCaskey by about 70 votes.

Benton County Justice of the Peace race heading for recount

“We have election officials in the back room that are opening the sealed ballot boxes that came in on election night and are looking for those ballots that are cast for JP District 1. From there, they will sort those ballots by candidate,” Benton County election coordinator Kim Dennison said.

She said rarely are the results different after a recount.

Dennison says results are verbally verified with the election commission, however, if there is a change in who won the race she says it will be noted when the election commission verifies results on Friday.
