  • These spy photos show the long-awaited Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, both upcoming full-size SUVs that will sit at the top of the Jeep lineup.

  • From its proportions, we can speculate that it'll be built upon the Ram 1500's platform.

  • It's likely that the two engine options will be a 3.6-liter V-6 with FCA's e-Torque hybrid system or a 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi.

We've known for a while that Jeep is bringing back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates, and we now have our best look yet at the proportions of this new full-size, three-row Jeep SUV.

We previously suspected that the revived Wagoneer would be built on the Ram 1500's body-on-frame underpinnings, and this prototype looks wide enough to be on this platform. We're not quite sure what the difference between the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer models will be, but we've heard that the relationship between the two might be akin to the Tahoe and Suburban, with the Grand Wagoneer serving as a long-wheelbase version of the standard Wagoneer.

The Wagoneer appears to share some styling with Jeep Grand Cherokee, as we can see headlights and taillights beneath the camouflage that are similarly shaped to those found on that mid-size SUV. The Grand Cherokee, too, is getting a redesign soon, and it might arrive before the Wagoneer.

The Wagoneer's powertrains are likely to be shared with the Ram 1500. We think the 3.6-liter V-6 with the e-Torque hybrid will be the standard engine, and the 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi will be the more powerful option. Both engines will probably be paired with a ZF eight-speed transmission and either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

We have no idea whether retro wood paneling will be on offer (we hope so), but we do know that this full-size Jeep will rival the likes of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the Ford Expedition. Jeep has said that the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will begin production in 2021, so we can expect to hear lots more about these new models some time in 2020.
