Jeep Grand Cherokee to be offered in India across three variants

Jeep, which is slated to launch in India later this year, will offer its Grand Cherokee SUV in three variants and across two engine options. They have been dubbed Limited, Summit and the SRT. In the global Jeep hierarchy the Limited is a mid-level variant while the Summit is a top-of-the line model. The SRT is a performance oriented model.

The Limited and Summit variants will be offered with a 3.0-litre diesel V6 engine producing 240bhp and 570Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed transmission and AWD system.

Given our sudden taste for all thing performance, Jeep will also offer the Grand Cherokee in the SRT (Street& Racing Technology) powertrain. This engine is a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 and produces 469bhp and 630Nm of torque. This engine too is also offered with an eight-speed AT and AWD system. This engine as the Hemi name suggests makes use of hemispherical cylinder heads which provide better internal combustion and is a technology that has been use in American cars for well over four decades now.

Standard features across all three models include leather upholstery, climate control, electric adjustment front seats and heated front seats. The Summit and the SRT trim levels get a 19-speaker Harman Kardon music system, 8.4-inch touchscreen display, GPS navigation, rear seat screens and Jeep’s proprietary UConnect software. On the safety front, all three models get over 10 airbags, ESP, limited slip differential, hill descent and start assist and active headrests.

All three variants are 4.82-metres in length and have a wheelbase of 2.91-metres. This translates to a really roomy cabin as they are strict five-seaters. The Grand Cherokee range will brought into the country via the CBU route and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 45 lakh to Rs 80 lakh.
