Jeb Lund Reflects on His Tragically Wrong Donald Trump Tweet

From Esquire

Have you ever been dead wrong? Like painfully, embarrassingly, dead wrong? Donald Trump tweeted the above foreshadowing statement exactly two years ago today. Noted Twitter User Mobute, a.k.a. Jeb Lund, roasted him pretty good, and is still among the algorithmic "top replies" two years later. But Trump ultimately got the best of Jeb, who lives in the swing state of Florida, much like he got the best of another man named Jeb, also from Florida.

Tonight is a weird night, as Trump is preparing to debate Hillary Clinton for the first time and people still can't believe he's actually a major party nominee. I asked Jeb Lund about his so terribly wrong Tweet over G-chat just a bit ago.

John Hendrickson: How often do people roast you over this tweet?

[Long silence]

(That's first q)

[Longer silence]

That's Chappie.

Jeb Lund: First of all, I cannot be owned and have never been owned. But, to answer your question, pretty infrequently. I think it's happened three times. Once, when a Stormtrumper found it and mocked me for it, and then I wound up mocking myself and sort of derailed whatever internet-dunking he thought he was going to do. Once, when friends brought it up and dunked on me again. And today, when someone with an anime character in his av wearing a MAGA hat (and following a bunch of accounts with Confederate flags in their avs) brought it up again.

Do you think Trump has read the Tweet?

I feel like he has to have. It's been retweeted so many times, and he's tagged each time. (Hell, he retweeted my friend David J. Roth's tweet in which he cited a completely fabricated Trump quote.) Plus, he's a prodigious reader.

A lot of people think he has this in the bag.

That's why they play the games, man. This is all pregame. This is jawing. This is locker-room shit. I want to see what happens when both candidates don't play our game but play their game-get out there, execute, give 110%.

What's going to happen in your native Florida?

I think Hillary digs it out narrowly. In terms of registration, Democrats have the edge, and I think Obama's GOTV efforts can help get the Democrats close to the 2012 turnout. Patrick Murphy's going to lose, though, and go home to weep on a chaise lounge stuffed with hundreds of thousands of his father's dollars.
