JCCPD officer indicted for several non-work related charges
JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – An officer with the James City County Police Department (JCCPD) was indicted on Wednesday on several ‘non-work related’ charges, according to a news release from JCCPD.
According to officials, a Williamsburg/James City County grand jury indicted Caleb Crawford, who served as an officer with JCCPD since August 2021, on charges of malicious wounding, child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On March 26, Child Protective Services noticed injuries to a child related to Crawford and notified the JCCPD.
James City County Police Chief Mark Jamison then notified the Virginia State Police to request an investigation into the incident.
Crawford, who was not scheduled to work from March 26 through March 28, was placed on administrative leave March 29, pending the conclusion of the investigation and resolution of the legal process.
Jamison released a statement regarding the incident, which can be found below:
This is an extremely serious matter and I have full faith in the Virginia State Police’s investigation. Once the charges were brought against Caleb Crawford, we placed him on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal and internal investigations.

JCCPD stated they will continue to fully cooperate with the Virginia State Police and other investigative authorities involved with the case.
