WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Commanders have been on the road this off-season doing the work to make sure no stone is left unturned when it comes to finding their next franchise quarterback.

Last week general manager Adam Peters, head coach Dann Quinn and others were at USC’s pro day to watch quarterback and DC native Caleb Williams before making the trip to Ann Arbor Michigan to check out J.J. McCarthy.

Wednesday, the Commanders were in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to scout Jayden Daniels. Daniels and North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye have seemingly been the two favorites to be selected by Washington with the second overall pick in April’s draft.

But what does Daniels think of the Commanders? “With them, it’s a new regime there”, Daniel said. “Obviously, (offensive coordinator) Kliff Kingsbury at Arizona and what he did with his track record with quarterbacks. Dan Quinn, you know, good head coach obviously when he was with the Falcons as a head coach. Obviously, led them to the Super Bowl. So, this is good to see the new regime, to see what plan they have in place.”

Daniels is also looking for a team who is going to see who he is, not just as a player, but as a person as well. “Who’s going to invest me? Who’s going to believe in me? You know, kind of like LSU did on and off the field. You know, as a man and a player. So, I’ll say that kind of the biggest thing. But they have probably already done their homework. They know who I am as a person and who I am as a player.”

The Commanders will visit North Carolina Thursday to check out quarterback Drake Maye, as Washington will have a tough decision to make once the draft begins on Thursday April 25th in Detroit.
