Ryan Murphy's Monster season 2 has cast two big name stars to play the Menéndez brothers' parents.

The second season of the Netflix anthology series will focus on Menéndez brothers Erik and Lyle who were found guilty of killing their parents, José and Mary Louise 'Kitty' Menéndez, in 1996.

Last June it was announced that Power Book II: Ghost star Cooper Koch will be playing Erik, while General Hospital's Nicholas Alexander Chavez will portray Lyle.

Now Variety reports that The Little Mermaid's Javier Bardem and American Horror Story: Hotel's Chloë Sevigny have joined the cast as José and Kitty Menéndez.

Netflix previously shared a teaser for the upcoming season, which is titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. It is set to debut on Netflix later this year.

The season is the second in Murphy's Monster anthology series with the first focusing on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer's murder spree through Milwaukee,

Dahmer was a big hit for Netflix in 2022 with over 1 billion hours viewed in the first 60 days. However, the series was not without controversy.

Following its release, Murphy responded after a backlash over the show being added to Netflix's LGBTQ+ category.

"I think that it got the tag, one, because of my involvement," he told Variety at the time. "I'm a gay man, so most of my stories deal with some sort of LGBTQ thing and I do that selfishly.

"When I was growing up, I had nothing [to look to]. My mission statement has been to talk about those stories and those characters and unearth buried history."

Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is streaming on Netflix, while Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will release later in 2024.
