Jason Sudeikis suddenly can’t host Kansas City Big Slick, too busy with ‘Ted Lasso’

Big Slick organizers announced Tuesday that host Jason Sudeikis will not appear at this week’s event because of a schedule change in the filming of his hit TV series “Ted Lasso.”

The Emmy-winning star of the soccer comedy has had a “production schedule change” and can’t come to Kansas City, organizers said. Sudeikis has been filming the third and perhaps final season of the show in London for the past few weeks. It is expected to debut sometime in August or September.

No word yet on whether he will make a virtual appearance. Sudeikis has been a regular host since Big Slick began in 2010.

The other four hometown hosts are still set to appear — Paul Rudd, Rob Riggle, Eric Stonestreet and David Koechner — along with 30 celebrity guests, including singer Sheryl Crow, who will appear for the first time.

Here’s the lineup of events:

▪ The Big Slick Celebrity Classic softball game at 5 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Kauffman Stadium. Anyone who buys a ticket to the Kansas City Royals game that night against the Oakland A’s can watch the celebrity softball game beforehand for free.

▪ The Big Slick Party & Show at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the T-Mobile Center downtown. Tickets range from $75 for standard lower level to $250-$375 for upgraded seats with Founder’s Club access, including drink tickets or open bar. They’re available at bigslickkc.org and T-MobileCenter.com.

Organizers kicked off an online auction of items with Hollywood flair on Tuesday. Up for grabs is “Drinks with Norm” at Boulevard Brewing Company. Norm is actor George Wendt, who played Norm on “Cheers.” He’s also Sudeikis’ uncle.

Other auction items include lunch with “Shadowhunters” star Katherine McNamara of Lee’s Summit; cocktails and karaoke with former Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt; a meet-and-greet with musician David Cook of Blue Springs; and tickets to several talk shows, including Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore and “The Daily Show.”
