Fans were under the assumption that Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet had been married for years. But last fall, it leaked to the press that the couple had not tied the knot until their October 2017 backyard wedding ceremony. Well, Momoa is still basking in the aftermath of making things “official.”

While promoting his upcoming film Braven, which hits some theaters nationwide on Feb. 2, the Frontier star told Yahoo that going through with his nuptials has made their relationship more solid than he could have ever imagined.

“I never actually thought that I would really feel that change, but I do,” he says of married life. “I’ve always thought of her as my wife. We have two beautiful children together. We’ve been together for 12 years. But yeah … it was awesome having the ceremony and saying my vows in front of all of our family and friends and being committed. I’m very, very happy that we did that, even though I knew that we were [committed].”

Following a brief honeymoon, the in-demand action star was quickly summoned back to Hollywood.

“It’s back to work, I guess,” he says, noting that he is currently on location in Newfoundland shooting Season 3 of Frontier. Naturally, that makes seeing his family a bit challenging. “But I get to see them very soon. We’re going to do some press for Frontier in New York, so I’m flying my babies out and my wife.”

Momoa jokes that although his kids love playing in the snow and “will love it,” Bonet much prefers her cozy Los Angeles temperatures. “My wife is going to be over it,” he says, joking about the New York weather.

Momoa and Bonet have had the chance to work together on several projects in the past, including Road to Paloma and the television series The Red Road, on which they played each other’s love interests. But it’s been a minute since the two lovebirds have collaborated on anything creatively.

“As far as working with wifey again, I will probably be helping her in her directing and producing,” Momoa says. “I know there’s a lot of stuff that she wants to do. And before we had babies, she was starting to direct a lot, so getting her back into that and supporting into that and supporting her there.”

The Aquaman star calls the experience of acting alongside his better half “amazing” and says that although they currently have no plans to do that again soon, he would love to pursue it soon. “She backs me up in everything that I do so I feel her support,” he says of being married to a fellow actor. “I love to run everything by her because I trust her, as you should as husband and wife.”

Between his work and family life, Momoa could not imagine being happier. “It’s great to be surrounded by amazing friends and family. That’s why I get up in the morning,” he says.

Momoa looks back fondly at his early days of trying to make it as a teenager in Hawaii and jokes about how far he has come.

“Jason back then was folding T-shirts and busing tables,” he recalls. “If I told that kid, ‘You are going to be an actor on Baywatch,’ he would say ‘bulls**t.’ If I told him, ‘You’re going to be playing Aquaman,’ he would say ‘bulls**t.’ I was a college student busing tables, so it’s a trip that I’m even here and now I’m even directing movies and TV shows. It’s a big weird world!” he says.

It is safe to assume if “that kid” was told he would marry Lisa Bonet one day, he would say “bulls**t.”
