Jarvis Christian University inaugurates second ever female president

HAWKINS, Texas (KETK) – At Jarvis Christian University on Thursday they inaugurated the university’s second ever Black woman president, Dr. Glenell M. Lee-Pruitt.

Lee-Pruitt will be the university’s thirteenth ever president to ever serve in the school’s 112-year history.

She’s been with JCU for 11 years and previously served at Mississippi Valley State University. Lee-Pruitt graduated with her doctorate from Jackson State University and she has degrees from Payne Theological Seminary and Temple University.

Dr. Sebetha Jenkins, the university’s first female president, attended the inauguration robing ceremony where Lee-Pruitt was presented with her presidential regalia, the presidential medallion and university mace by former president, Dr. Lester C. Newman.

“In my voice I say to you today, I’m going to give Jarvis Christian University the best that I have, because at Jarvis, only the best will do,” said Lee-Pruitt.

Lee-Pruitt added that she wanted to empower students to reach their dreams through an affordable academic experience.
