In a world of prying paparazzo, oversharing on social media, and incessant over-analysis via the internet, January Jones has somehow managed to keep her 6-year-old son mostly under wraps.

We know that his name is Xander Dane Jones and that he was born on Sept. 13, 2011, but that’s about it. Most notably, the Mad Men star has not revealed the identity of her son’s father. In fact, she defiantly told The New York Times in 2013, “That’s my son’s business, it’s not the public’s business.”

Given her choice to stay silent on the subject in the past — both in interviews and on social media — it was surprising Wednesday when Jones shared a photo of Xander on his first day of school. Sure, he was cleverly covering his face while doing a dance move called “the dab,” but he was there.

Things you can tell from the photo: He’s in first grade. He has blonde hair he wears in a funky style. His preference — or, more likely, his school’s preference — is for black and red clothing. And that’s pretty much it.

Jones told The Times that she adopted her stance to keep her personal life, including her son, well, personal from another Hollywood actor. “Jack Nicholson once told me: ‘You should never give your personal life away, otherwise people will pick you apart. They’ll never believe in your character,'” she revealed.

Jones isn’t the only celeb who’s opted to keep details about their offspring quiet — Donald Glover, Ryan Gosling, and Eva Mendes among them. Others, including Halle Berry, who famously campaigned for laws keeping the paparazzi away from children, have also been known to give the public only the occasional glimpse at their little ones. While she typically obscures her kids’ (obviously) gorgeous faces on social media, Berry showed son Maceo’s face — well, half of it anyway — during a family vacation in June.

Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum, who long kept 5-year-old daughter Everly out of their Instagram posts, showed her face in a birthday throwback pic.

Comedian Ali Wong is among those who keeps her daughter’s face hidden in posts, but she freely shows that of her niece.

So, in a few years, Jones, Wong, and others just might change their minds. Otherwise, no big deal, curious fans can just wait a few more years and see Xander and his crew in their first high-fashion ad campaigns.
