PETOSKEY — The Zonta Club of Petoskey recently named Jane Manthei of Petoskey as the 2024 recipient of the Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship.

Manthei is a junior at Harbor Light Christian Academy. She is hoping to attend a small Christian college and plans to study English and global studies. Upon graduation, Manthei wants to work with an international nonprofit organization with a special interest in working with immigrants to the United States.

During her time in high school, Manthei has served on the student council for three years. She is also on the cross country and track teams. She works with an organization called YoungLives that provides support and mentorship for teen mothers. Manthei also volunteers at her church as a child care helper for second and third grade students.

"I would like to say thank you to Zonta for their generous investment in my education,” Manthei said. “I appreciate their efforts in encouraging women all over the world and I hope to continue to help people wherever God leads me."

The goal of the Young Women in Public Affairs Award Program is to encourage more young women to participate in public affairs by recognizing a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Manthei will receive a $1,000 grant from the Zonta Club of Petoskey and then be recommended for a district/region award. One recipient per district receives a district/region award of $1,000 and their application is submitted to be considered for an International Award. Ten district/region award recipients receive an additional $4,000 International Award.
