Jane Fonda Shaded Lily Tomlin and Megyn Kelly During Her Today Show Interview

Jane Fonda, 80-year-old feminist icon, has no time for anyone aiming to embarrass her over her choice to undergo plastic surgery — including friend and costar Lily Tomlin.

On Tuesday, the two actors appeared on the Today show with Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie to chat about their Netflix show, Grace and Frankie. The interview started off innocently enough when Kotb asked how long the costars have known each other. Tomlin decided to answer with a zinger. "Oh my God...I think before [Jane's] first face-lift," Tomlin joked. The co-anchors were loving it, but Fonda, queen of clap-backs, hit right back. "Who are you, Megyn Kelly?" she quipped.

In September 2017, Fonda appeared on Kelly's third-hour segment on the Today show with her Our Souls at Night costar Robert Redford. Despite having ample material to draw from — the golden age of Hollywood, the current state of affairs in the industry, the literal movie they were there to promote — Kelly focused on appearances and asked the actor why she is not proud to admit her plastic surgery. By now, you know that Fonda was going to have a great retort. "We really want to talk about that now?" she said at the time.

The joke is on literally everyone else because Fonda has been a beauty icon since her infamous mug shot. She even appeared on the cover of the November 2017 issue of Town & Country magazine without Photoshop. In the magazine interview, Fonda was asked about a passage in her 2005 memoir where she realized she didn't need to be perfect. "Perfect?" she said in the interview. "It doesn't exist. What matters is that you're whole."
