Jan. 6 Capitol riot, one year later

Good morning. Welcome to your Thursday Daily Briefing. This is planning director Madalyn Hoerr.

Today marks one year since the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. For the first time since the War of 1812, Congress was under siege, this time by attackers who smashed windows, beat Capitol Police officers with metal pipes and erected a mock gallows, threatening to kill Vice President Mike Pence.

A year later, more than 700 people from 45 states have been charged with federal crimes in connection to the events. At least 22 of them have clear ties to Tennessee. Most of them are from Middle Tennessee.

Scroll below to learn about their charges and what's next in the cases.
