Jamie Foxx-Produced Series on Marvin Gaye Gets Approval From Gaye's Family

This is the first time that Gaye's family has ever given authorization for such a project.

Jamie Foxx will be at the helm for a new limited series about the life of Marvin Gaye, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The actor will serve as the new series' executive producer alongside Passe Jones Entertainment's Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones.

"I've been a huge fan my whole life. His brilliance in music is unparalleled," Foxx said in a statement. "Marvin Gaye's story has always fascinated me."

This is the first time that an attempt at bringing Gaye's story to life has ever been authorized by Gaye's family. Previously, Lenny Kravitz, Cameron Crowe, James Gandolfini, Scott Rudin, and many others tried to create similar projects, but Gaye's family had never given the go-ahead until now.

"This project will be a powerful and definitive telling of Marvin Gaye's life story," Gaye's son, Marvin Gaye III, told The Hollywood Reporter. He will also executive produce the project.

de Passe, who's executive produced a number of Motown television specials, revealed that she and Jones are currently in talks with Sony/ATV to determine which songs by Marvin Gaye will be used for the limited series.

No dates have been set yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the team will be shopping it to linear and digital outlets.
