James Shaw Jr., Tennessee Waffle House Hero, Meets Parkland Survivors

James Shaw Jr. met students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The hero of the Waffle House shooting in Tennessee recently met with survivors from the February massacre in Parkland, Fla.

James Shaw Jr. sat with students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for a breakfast in Florida over the weekend.

"Meeting the young adults of the Parkland incident... so much fire and inspiration in their eyes was a great joy," Shaw tweeted after the meeting.

Among those who met with Shaw were David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez, perhaps the most outspoken of the Parkland survivors.

"Wow just, wow @JamesShawJr9 lots of work ahead but the young people will win," Hogg tweeted Saturday.

Gonzalez also tweeted: "This was the Most Legendary Breakfast ive ever had in my life."

Shaw became a household name just weeks ago when he risked his own safety to wrestle alleged Waffle House shooter Travis Reinking to the ground after he killed four people.

Shaw has since helped raise nearly $250,000 to help the families of the victims.

He has received various honors since his heroic act, including getting to throw the first pitch at a local minor league game and appearing on the floor of the Tennessee legislature.
