James Crumbley has hearing loss, will wear headphones during trial, judge says

Embattled school parent James Crumbley is wearing headphones during his involuntary manslaughter trial, as he had at some earlier court appearances.

He has hearing loss, Oakland County Judge Cheryl Matthews explained during jury selection this week.

Prosecutor: Oxford students would be alive if James Crumbley had acted

Crumbley is also wearing a suit, a change from pretrial appearances when he wore an orange jail jumpsuit. He has been locked up for more than two years on a $500,000 bond. But during trial, he's allowed to wear normal clothes to avoid prejudicing the jury against him.

Prosecutors are seeking to hold Crumbley responsible for the deaths of four students murdered by his son in the 2021 mass shooting at Oxford High School.
