James Corden is in hot water after taking a photo with former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer at the 2017 Emmy Awards on Sunday night.

In a photo taken backstage at the Microsoft Theater following Spicer's surprise appearance at the award show, Corden is shown planting a kiss on Spicer's cheek as the former Trump staffer squints in total glee.

The photo almost immediately prompted backlash after Variety posted it on its official Instagram account.

"Why is a man who supported a racist pos being rewarded?" one user asked in the comments.

"I'm glad James Corden revealed his love for Holocust deniers," another wrote.

"Gross. Not funny," another commented. "Racist f--kers, f--k you Emmys for trying to make this hateful man likeable."

So, the backlash was simultaneously aimed at Corden for cozying up to Spicer and to the organizers of the Emmys who decided to allow Spicer to appear at the high-profile Hollywood event.

On Twitter, a handful of users compared Corden's moment with Spicer to fellow late-night host Jimmy Fallon's infamous moment with Donald Trump on "The Tonight Show," during which he memorably messed up the future president's recognizable hair. The move was largely viewed to be Fallon normalizing and okaying Trump's widely controversial behavior.

James Corden has yet to respond to the backlash.
