Jail to hold hiring event

May 6—The Metropolitan Detention Center is looking to add more corrections officers and is having a hiring event on Saturday.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the jail, 100 Deputy Dean Miera SW.

The jail has struggled to stay fully staffed in recent years.

The jail has been, at times, at around 50% fully staffed and has called a state of emergency because of a lack of corrections officers.

The jail is looking to hire corrections officers, corrections technicians and non-corrections positions.

Pay for new officers starts at $20.34 per hour and it increases to $21.36 an hour upon completion of the academy.

New officers are eligible for a hiring incentive up to $5,000 and officers with previous corrections experience can receive up to $10,000 as a hiring incentive.

Officers have a 25-year retirement plan and paid vacation and sick leave.

Potential employees will be able to interview at the jail on Saturday during the hiring event.
