Jaguars: Three keys to beating the Titans

Titans dominated
Titans dominated

This week, the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Tennessee Titans. They will be squaring off under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football. However, with the way the Jaguars have been playing, they would probably prefer not being on prime-time television.

The 2-4 Jaguars desparately need in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. Even though 3-4 isn’t great, it could be good enough to compete in the AFC South. These are the three things they need to work on to beat the Titans.

Stop (or try to stop) DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray is currently third in the league in rushing yards. His performance is making the Titans’ trade with the Eagles look like the steal of the century. Behind a solid offensive line, Murray hasn’t been stopped by any defense yet.

Jacksonville’s defense is currently allowing an average of 109.8 rushing yards per game. If they want to win (or at least keep the game close), they MUST hold DeMarco Murray to under 100 yards.

Don’t make stupid mistakes

Looking at you, Blake Bortles.

Bortles is currently third in the league in interceptions thrown with nine. He has thrown a pick in all but one of his games this year. People make fun of Jay Cutler for throwing picks, but it may be time to retire those jokes and apply them to Blake Bortles.

Jacksonville’s offense gets very little done when he makes stupid plays. Just look at Allen Robinson’s numbers lately. A mistake-free Bortles could be the difference between a win and a blowout loss.

Stay disciplined

The Jaguars currently have the second-most penalties in the NFL with 59. They have also lost/allowed the highest amount of penalty yards. If things weren’t bad enough, Malik Jackson and Jalen Ramsey were both ejected from last week’s game. Yikes.

Discipline has become a rising issue for Jacksonville in recent weeks. They’ll have to turn that trend around for them to succeed.
