Jacksonville sidewalk renovation project continues
JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KETK) – The Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation said that the second phase of the downtown sidewalk redevelopment project started up recently.

The JEDCO board of directors approved a contract with Schaumburg & Polk Inc. for the design and engineering of sidewalks at:
E. Commerce Street from S. Main to Austin Street
Ragsdale Street from E. Commerce to US 79
S. Main Street from US 79 to E. Larissa Street.
The $356,000 design contract will task Schaumburg & Polk Inc. with matching the new sidewalks with the sidewalks laid down in the first phase on the west side of downtown.
“We know the first phase of the sidewalk project improved the look and feel of our downtown,” said Darrell Dement, JEDCO chairman of the board of directors. “We also knew we needed a plan moving forward to be certain we got it right. This project will transform downtown, but it will take time and resources, so we owed it to the citizens to be sure we had worked through every option.”

The expenditure for the second phase of the project was unanimously approved on March 12 by the Jacksonville City Council.
“This is a great step forward,” said Randy Gorham, Mayor of Jacksonville. “These types of projects enhance our quality of life in Jacksonville, making it a better place to live, do business, and raise a family. I’m thrilled about our future and look forward to our continued success.”
JEDCO said that designing the sidewalks to match phase one will take six to nine months and that the new construction will push into 2025.
