Jackson Mahomes pleads no contest, gets probation in Johnson County battery case

Jackson Mahomes was sentenced to six months of probation by a Johnson County judge Thursday after pleading no contest in a misdemeanor battery case, court records show.

Mahomes appeared via video conference in Johnson County Court. Judge Thomas Sutherland ordered Mahomes to the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department to determine whether he qualifies for work release.

Mahomes, 23, a social influencer, is the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

He had initially faced three counts of aggravated sexual battery in addition to the misdemeanor battery charge. Prosecutors dismissed the felony charges in January after failed attempts to serve the accuser court papers compelling her to testify.

His plea Thursday means he accepts the court’s conviction without admitting guilt.

The charges against Jackson Mahomes stem from an incident on Feb. 25, 2023, where he allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat and forcibly kissed her in the office of the Overland Park restaurant she owned at the time.

Aspen Vaughn went public with allegations against Jackson Mahomes in March 2023. She described the encounter in an earlier interview with The Star as unwelcome and shocking.

After giving her account, Vaughn said she endured death threats, harassment and vandalism of her restaurant. Aspens Restaurant and Lounge closed its doors in August 2023.

The jury trial on the battery charge, which had been scheduled for March 25, was canceled after Thursday’s sentencing.
