Jackson County executive orders flags at half-staff Monday to honor Drexel Mack

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Executive Frank White has ordered flags be lowered at half-staff Monday at all governmental offices and police stations for Drexel Mack’s memorial service.

The 41-year-old was shot and killed last week in Independence while working as a process server for the 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County. Independence Officer Cody Allen was also killed in the shooting, and two other officers were injured.

A memorial service for Mack will take place 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, at the Jackson County Courthouse in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri.

Mack had been with the Jackson County court for over 12 years.

White also announced temporary adjustment in county operations on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. County departments will have limited staff available for in-person or phone assistance to residents. Residents during this time are being asked to refrain from conducting business at the downtown courthouse.

“Adjusting our staffing schedule at this time allows county associates the chance to attend the ceremony and pay their respects to Mr. Mack, his family, friends and colleagues,” White said. “Mr. Mack devoted his life to public service, a commitment shared by everyone working for our county each day. The profound loss of his life deeply affects us and I hope that any support we can offer brings comfort, peace and love to those in mourning.”

Jackson County said Missouri Governor Mike Parson will order flags at half-staff on the day of Mack’s interment on Saturday, March 16.

Prosecutors have charged 69-year-old Larry D. Acree in the deaths of Allen and Mack. He’s facing two counts of first-degree murder, among other charges.
