‘The Jackson’ civic center booking up after opening in February

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (KETK) – In 2022, the city of Jacksonville proposed a plan to develop and construct an civic center at the Cherokee Ranch Golf Course. After it was passed by voters the renovations began.

Jacksonville Proposition W placed on ballot to help fund Civic Center

“That proposition was really important to help provide those additional funds to get this facility up and running, to get started,” said Daniel Seguin, director of communications and tourism for the City of Jacksonville

It took a lot of work to get The Jackson at Cherokee Ranch open for bookings.

“The fire suppression system wasn’t online, the air conditioning units are having issues, etc.,” said Seguin.

$800,000 in work later and Seguin said that reservations are filling the calendar.

“It’s surpassed our expectations so far, and I think going forward it’s going to continue to beat our expectations,” said Seguin.

The city said the new building is for the community and should pay for itself.

“Our first focus is to make it financially viable, so bring the facility to where there’s absolutely no risk of it ever costing the local taxpayer any money,” said Seguin.

So far they are on track and booking up quickly.
